PJ S.E.E.D. Community Grant

THE Petaling Jaya Community Grant, which provides funding for community-related projects, hopes to widen its scope and attract collaborations from outside the city.

Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said the grant, which is one-of-a-kind in the country, has disbursed RM1.3mil since it started in 2019.

“Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has had 93 successful projects since the inception of the grant three years ago. These projects are still up and running and we are proud of the outcome.”

Kebun Kita

KEBUN KITA is essentially a ‘community garden’ project undertaken by the City Council’s Landscape Department with Petaling Jaya communities. The project is done in a small scale around their homes as an effort to address the rising prices of essentials by encouraging the production of various types of crops for daily use.

KEBUN KITA seeks to optimize, unite and synergize various government agencies, businesses, communities and the public towards a sustainable solution that supports the United Nation’s Global Sustainable Development Goals.

Lifelong Learning IT

Special IT training programmes are conducted for the local indigenous community and the lower income groups for them to learn basic computer knowledge using word processing software, spreadsheets, graphic design packages and others so they are equipped with IT skills and not left behind.

Rainwater Harvesting System (SPAH)

An education program to create awareness on the importance of harvesting and reusing rainwater, involving schoolchildren ages 6 to 12 (including special needs children). 

The rainwater harvesting system were installed at school gardens and prayer rooms.

Recycled Sack (Karung Kitar)

Urban poor residents are taught how to make various types of recycled sacks/bags and sell them to the city council, non-governmental organisations, colleges and the public to sustain a living.

Petaling Jaya Book Expo (PJBX)

A book fair for the community partnering with local publishers in the country with talks, competitions, storytelling, and various activities throughout the duration of the fair. 

PJ City Bus

A free bus system service provided by the city council not only transport people from one point to another, it also links all the learning and community centres in its routes.

The number of buses has been increased from 22 to 32 units and the number of routes increased from 4 to 6, covering more areas, including 24 public schools. Its future plan is to introduce the “Scan-to-Ride” feature to capture user demographics and usage patterns.
